Call for Submission:
International Conference on Overseas Community Affairs (ICOCA)

Preface
Chinese have been living and working overseas for thousands of years. With the globalization of the 20th century, and OCAC’s efforts to come up with new and innovative strategies to aid future policies. International Conference on Overseas Community Affairs (ICOCA) is scheduled for December 2nd and 3rd 2013 to promote new thinking for globalized overseas Chinese affairs.

2. Time & Location:
  (1) Time: Monday & Tuesday, December 2nd& 3rd 2013
  (2) Location: National Taiwan University International Convention Center, Taipei

3. Qualifications for submission:
  (1) Scholars, experts and individuals who have knowledge and experience on overseas community affairs
  (2) Professors and research students both domestically and overseas

4. Topics
  (1) Overseas Chinese policies and cross-strait issue
     a. The role and strategy of overseas community affairs in the cross-strait competition and cooperation
     b. Analysis of overseas community affairs application from cultural perspective
     c. Utilization of cultural exchange with countries where overseas communities reside

  (2) Sustainability of overseas Chinese youth development and overseas communities
     a. The influence of overseas community structure on the development of overseas communities
     b. Liaison strategy for connecting domestic Chinese and our overseas communities
     c. Exploring the challenge and strategies of overseas Chinese youth
     d. Sustainability of policies that encourages our overseas Chinese youth to return to Taiwan for education

  (3) Relevant topics regarding overseas Chinese education and students
     a. Strategy for Chinese education to stay in the global trend of Chinese language learning
     b. Exploring the trend of Chinese language learning
     c. Comparison of cross-strait overseas community policies
     d. Comparison of effectiveness of Chinese language teacher trainings
     e. Studies on attracting overseas Chinese youth to return to Taiwan for education

  (4) Overseas Chinese businesses and exploration of overseas markets
     a. Studies on attracting overseas Chinese businesses to return and participate in Taiwan’s economic development
     b. Sustainability and transformation of overseas Chinese business structures
     c. Assistance on cultivating talent to keep up with global economy
     d. The influence of our overseas community policies on talent cultivation and economic influence 

  (5) Other
     a. Other related academic research 

5. Deadlines:
  (1) Outline Submission deadline: July 31st, 2013
  (2) Evaluation: Evaluated by both OCAC and academic representatives
  (3) Notification: Will notify via email as soon as the evaluation comes out
  (4) Paper Submission deadline: October 1st, 2013
  (5) Format:
     a. Outline and the paper itself must be written using WORD document and printed on A4 paper. Please mail the papers using the following methods. papers that do not meet the format requirement will not be evaluated.
- Paper: It must be written in Chinese. English is acceptable, however, it must include both Chinese and English titles, author name, unit, email, and paper outline, as well as purpose of research, research questions, method and findings. Characters are limited to 1,000.
- Entire paper: The entire paper must follow the following format once the outline is approved:
1. Font size:
新細明體font should be used. The title font size must be 18 and bolded; chapter font size must be 16 and bolded. Author name font size must be 14; content font size must be 12 and only新細明體and Times New Roman should be used. The font size for forms, outlines and reference must be 10.
2. Paragraph: There should be 2 spaces at the beginning of each paragraph with 1.5 line spacing.
3. Total number of characters: 10,000 to 15,000 in Chinese; 8,000 to 10,000 in English.
     b. Forms of publishing:
- Authors shall be invited for discussions upon passing the evaluation (fees are calculated based on industry standards)
     c. Upon completion of the discussion, the paper will be collected as part of the compilation for publishing.
